Rum Rum is one of the five essential spirits (along with gin, brandy, whiskey and vodka) that is usually found in a proper bar.  It is fermented and distilled from sugar cane, molasses or another sugar industry by-product.  Sometimes it is flavored or aromtized with spices and fruits, especially raisins and plums (e.g. demerara).  All commercial rums are rectified colorless (white).  Colored rums are cask-aged, sometimes for decades before they are bottled;  they may be labeled light, white, golden, amber, demerara, dark, spiced, vintage, estate, dry or sweet.  Rum may be bottled at various strengths, from 40 - 80% alcohol, depending on the type and market.  Although rum is distilled all over the world, it is mostly made and consumed in the Caribbean and North America.  See Liquor Quik Products
